Worrell 1000 Leg 2 Finish - Calm seas and beautiful conditions contribute to an early arrival at Jensen Beach, FL.

May 7th, 2002 - Leg 3

Worrell 1000 Leg 3 Finish - As the teams enter Leg 3 of the race, temperatures are averaging around 90 degrees F, with a nice sea breeze blowing Southeast at 18-20 kts. An early arrival is expected, with boats scheduled to start landing between 3:00 and 4:00 PM EDT.

May 8th, 2002 - Leg 4

Worrell 1000 Leg 4 Start
Worrell 1000 Leg 4 Finish - Team Caliente capsized just beyond the surfline as they were approaching the checkpoint in 7th place. They were able to right the boat quickly, and continued on to the checkpoint after losing only one finishing position. Every team competing today broke the existing overall time record for this leg of the race!

Worrell 1000 Leg 5 Finish - Every team who reached today's checkpoint before 3:17:30 PM EDT (1st-10th place) broke the existing overall time record for this leg of the race!

May 10th, 2002 - Leg 6

Worrell 1000 Leg 6 Finish - Team Castrol set a new record for this leg of the race! Team Tommy Bahama beat the old record (7:56:33) as well, and Team San Antonio tied it!

May 11th - 12th, 2002 - Leg 7

Worrell 1000 Leg 7 Finish - Team Pi purposely turned over 50 yards out in the surf due to a stuck dagger board. Shore crew and sailors had to pull the boat through the finish line on its side. Team AthletesInAction - Chris Sawyer had to withdraw from the race due to a hand injury that was incurred during the last leg when the trapeze broke. Will Rottering has taken his place, and the team received a 30 minute time penalty for the crew change. Today's start in Isle of Palms was delayed 20 minutes to 6:20pm to accommodate a live broadcast of the start by the local (Charleston, SC) ABC affilliate, WCIV-TV.

May 12th - 13th, 2002 - Leg 8

Worrell 1000 Leg 8 Finish - All teams to arrive before 12:17:03 A.M. EDT beat the existing time record for this leg!

May 14th, 2002 - Leg 9
Results
Worrell 1000 Leg 9 Start - Bay Wind I dropped out of the race after departing Myrtle Beach, SC. Reigh North hurt his leg and was unable to continue.
Worrell 1000 Leg 9 Finish - Teams LexisNexis and Castrol beat the existing time record of 5:17:00 for this leg.

Worrell 1000 Leg 11 Finish - Team Alexanders' on the Bay beat the elapsed time record of 3:35:04 for this leg. Team Caliente broke their mast just off of Cape Hatteras. They were 41 miles from the checkpoint at 2:00 PM, and will be proceeding to the finish line under a jury-rig. Team AthletesInAction was awared a 60-minute overall time redress for their time spent helping Caliente - ** This redress time is tentative pending further verification.
