Worrell 1000 Veterans Hall of Fame
While searching our database we were struck by the large number of World and National titles
held by sailors who have competed in the Worrell 1000. As we expanded our search to include
all Worrell 1000 competitors, past and present, and their achievements, it became obvious that
the pursuit of excellence, the desire for personal challenge and a passion for the sport of
sailing were common threads. For us, it has been exciting and inspiring to document and salute
the exploits and accomplishments of the "Worrell Veterans."
The Worrell 1000 is a unique and special challenge. The commitment and dedication by all
competitors is to be admired and applauded. For many that same pursuit of excellence and
personal challenge has been directed to the non-sailing areas of their lives. All are extremely
interesting and special individuals. It is not easy to make a list knowing that many
extraordinary people would not be included. In the end, however, it was eased somewhat
by limiting the selection to those with National or World titles, awards, or honors. We
hope that you are as impressed as we are.
